Job Description   

To take day-to-day responsibility for the running of an extra care housing scheme, providing support to and co-ordinating services to tenants and promoting their independence.

Key contacts
Extra Care Operations Manager, Housing Officer, Care Manager and Care team, Service Users and family or carers, Referral Agencies, Contractors, Statutory and Voluntary Agencies.


Main tasks and duties


•    To liaise with health professionals, social workers and relatives visiting the scheme.

•    To build and maintain effective links with the on site care team.

•    To liaise with multi disciplinary agencies in order to generate interest in the scheme.

•    To participate in the schemes application and assessment process where appropriate and attend Allocation panel meetings.

•    To liaise with the scheme Housing Officer to facilitate tenants moving in to the scheme.

•    To liaise with the scheme Housing Officer to ensure that the tenants are fulfilling their tenancy obligation’s, and to provide support to tenants on any housing related support issues that arise.

•    To ensure daily personal contact is made with all tenants and to keep a daily record of the type of contact made.

•    To develop and review individual support plans signposting tenants to other agencies where appropriate.

•    To ensure that all residents understand how to use the Warden call Alarm System, door entry facilities and know what action to take in the case of a fire.

•    To encourage a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere at the scheme and encourage the formation of clubs, social gatherings and other recreational activities likely to be of interest to the tenants.

•    Establish a programme of communal activities with identified providers.

•    Monitor operating arrangements of on site social enterprise businesses.

•    To promote tenant involvement in the running of the scheme and in their local community.

•    To ensure the scheme is part of the community by attending meetings of local Residents' Associations and encouraging the community to use the scheme facilities.

•    To work in accordance with the Association's Health and Safety Policy and Procedures and carry out Health and Safety checks and risk assessments at the scheme.

•    To test the Fire Alarm System and check Fire Equipment on a weekly basis.

•    To maintain a scheme diary, log book and Accident Book.

•    To report any repairs required at the scheme and ensure that service contracts are maintained.

•    To order and control stocks of cleaning and other materials, in accordance with procedures.

•    To ensure that the Association's Equal Opportunities Policy Statement is fully implemented at all times.

•    To attend appropriate training and participate in supervision, appraisal and team meetings.

•    To provide cover for other scheme managers absence as and when appropriate.

•    To supervise and direct the workload of the cleaning staff and caretaker.

•    To participate in the recruitment of any cleaners, and in their training, appraisal and management in accordance with the Association's Policies and Procedures.

•    To carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the Extra Care Operations Manager.

Person Specification   

Experience
Essential    Desirable

•    Experience of working with older and/or vulnerable people.
•    Experience of working in a supported or sheltered housing or care environment.

•    Experience of support planning
•    Health and Safety and First Aid awareness and training.
